  • Graduate Mixed/Farm Vet at Capontree Veterinary Centre, Cumbria and Scottish Borders

    Capontree is proud of its reputation in providing the highest quality care to the farms of Cumbria, Northumberland and the Borders of Scotland. Due to continued expansion, we are seeking a forward-thinking, confident and experienced full-time mixed/farm veterinary surgeon to join our friendly and committed team.

    We are a 14-vet modern RCVS Tier 2 practice covering three sites at Brampton, Longtown and Haltwhistle. We work to achieve a happy progressive practice covering dairy 40%, sheep 15%, beef 40%, smallholders 4% and equine 1%. We have strong relationships with a large range of dairy, beef and sheep clients helping them to achieve their goals.
    We work in the local community and also cover some work at local auction marts during sheep/bull sales. The practice has 3 directors with certificates; CertCHP and two CertAVP. We run a sheep club and proactively provide health plans with many farms on full vaccination programmes. Bull/ram semen testing is performed with training provided.
    We offer:
    Full-time position with a 1 in 4 weekend rota.
    Shared large-animal-only on-call rota with dedicated back-up
    TB testing will be a small part of your workload
    Ability to develop and grow in your areas of interest as you settle into the practice

  • Mixed Veterinary Surgeon at D S McGregor & Partners, Thurso and Wick, Scottish Highlands

    We are looking for a vet keen to pursue a career in mixed practice with a friendly and supportive team of 19 vets in the Scottish Highlands. We are an independent, genuinely mixed practice and the home of the popular TV series ‘The Highland Vet.’ Although the role can be flexible and individual interests pursued, a vet with an enthusiasm for farm animal work would be particularly suitable. A typical day starts with a cup of tea and a team meeting at 8:45am and when not on call you will normally be finished by 5:30pm. The shared out of hours rota is currently 1:5 with days off in lieu. New graduates can expect to be well supported by senior colleagues. 
     
    Our practices are well-equipped, including: 
    Farm animal – rectal scanners, hydraulic foot tipping crate, EEJ for bull/tup testing,
    automated faecal egg analysers. We have vets who are trained to carry out PMs at the local SRUC facility. 
    Equine – Repro/Tendon scanner, portable x-ray, power float for dentals. 
    Small animal – digital x-ray, ultrasound, dental x-ray with table-side processor, in-house blood machines, range of ortho equipment including TPLO kit. 
    Even though the pace of life is more laid back in the north of Scotland there is still plenty to enjoy in your free time. There are numerous sporting clubs, fitness facilities and outdoor activities available in the area. For the more relaxed among us, there are beautiful beaches to walk the dog on, the northern lights, a variety of wildlife, as well as excellent cafes/restaurants. 
     
    The salary package starts at £39,388 for a new graduate (salary plus additional benefits) with a generous pay rise structure based on experience. 29 days holiday each year. GDP and CPD fully supported. A company vehicle can be provided if required or the candidate can run their own vehicle and claim back mileage. We can assist in finding accommodation if needed.   • Farm Animal Vet at Mount Vets, Wellington, Somerset

    Mount Vets Farm Practice is looking for a vet to join our team late Spring/Summer 2024. Our team comprises 8 full-time clinicians, 2 TB-testing vet techs, 1 foot trimmer and 8 support staff. We are situated in Wellington (Somerset) alongside our Mount Vets companion animal practice, with a branch practice based between Cullompton and Honiton (Devon).
    We have a lively, community-based team. We are proud to say that 4 of our current clinicians joined the Mount straight from university and the other 4 clinicians have been at the Mount for more than 10 years. We work hard to look after each other and our clients, establishing healthy long-term relationships.
    The role is for a pure large animal full-time clinician. We are very lucky to tend to dairies ranging from 2000 to 20 cows, commercial and pedigree beef and sheep enterprises, and a thriving small holder population. All clients are highly valued and allow us to have a pleasantly varied balance of work. All of the vets are on the out of hours rota, resulting in a nice relaxed 1 in 8 rota.
    We are happy to receive applicants of any years of experience, including current undergraduates on course to qualify this Summer.
    The package will comprise a good salary commensurate with the applicant’s years of experience, 28 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays, back up on call for 8-24 months as needed for new graduates, private healthcare with a mental health bolt-on, private use of a 22/23 plate Toyota Hilux, £100 present from the practice to each member of staff each year to spend how you like, discounted small animal fees, cycle to work scheme, discounted gym membership, and £1500 CPD budget.

  • Approved Tuberculin Tester (ATT) at Farm First Veterinary Services, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire

    What is an Approved Tuberculin Tester: Approved Tuberculin Testers (ATTs) are Animal Health para professionals with the authority to carry out statutory TB skin testing of cattle. ATT’s will be trained and work under the supervision of an Approved Veterinary Supervisor
    Candidate requires the following:
    Minimum age of 18 years.
    Identification and basic DBS security checks.
    Minimum academic requirement is either:
    Three GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in Mathematics, English and in a Science Subject or Food Production 
    OR three years performance in a government regulatory role e.g., Local Authority (LA) Inspector or Environmental Health Officer

    A minimum of six months previous livestock handling experience.
    Must have a full driver’s license.
    Ability to work independently and to a high standard.
    Enjoy working outdoors in all weathers.
    Flexible with time (some early starts)
    Training
    Online course with examination
    Practical TB testing under the direct and continuous supervision of the AVS (senior vet within the practice) until all practical training requirements have been achieved.
